Northfield Little League hit a home run to for the Boys and Girls Club

NORTHFIELD—Arrayed about pitchers mound Tuesday afternoon on the Babe Ruth field at Birch Grove Park was nearly 200 pieces of baseball and softball equipment. All of it was used by players in the Northfield Little League program and all to be donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Atlantic City.

This is the fifth year the Northfield Little League has been donating used baseball equipment to various groups that their kids have outgrown but still has plenty of life left in the cleats, bats, uniforms and balls. This time around they kept the donation close to home.

When Steve Kintish, a Northfield Little League coach heard that the Atlantic City Boys and Girls Club had to shut their doors due to lack of funding he immediately thought Northfield could do their part to help.

Kintish reached out to Atlantic City Councilman, Marty Smalls who was heading up a committee to try and get the doors open at the Boys and Girls Club and give the kids in Atlantic City a safe place to play for the summer.

Kintish offered Smalls the baseball equipment for the Boys and Girls Club and Smalls graciously accepted. Tuesday, Smalls headed to Northfield to pick up the equipment.

Kintish is head of gaming at Caesars Hotel and Casino where the program “Caring Culture” has been in place for years promoting ways for employees to help those who need it most.

“I adapted Caesars Caring Culture for Northfield Little League,” said Kintish. “Baseball equipment is expensive and this donation to the Boys and Girls Club of Atlantic City will allow kids who might not have the opportunity to have this equipment a chance to enjoy the game that we all love and it also tells our kids that we need to take advantage of every opportunity we have to help those who need it.”

Bryant DeShields, a unit director with the Boys and Girls Club accompanied Smalls along with several ball players.

DeShields said the equipment will go right into use at summer camp and the kids will be able to get out on the field right across the street from the Boys and Girls Club and have some fun and also appreciate their new friends in Northfield who generously remembered them.
